Lyon County Economic Development Recognizes County Businesses

Elanco Animal Health was one of seven businesses and one community event recognized by the Lyon County Economic Development Advisory Board (LCED) at a luncheon Tuesday, June 28, at Forster Community Center in Rock Rapids.

“Lyon County is blessed with great businesses and events and this allows us to showcase and express our appreciation for their investment, hard work and contribution to our communities,” according to Steve Simons, Lyon County Economic Development Director. “Our county economic development strategic plan has a number of action items that lead the LCED Advisory Board in our efforts. Business Recognition is one of those action items.”

Recipients were recognized in the following categories with Lyon County Economic Development Advisory Board members presenting the awards:

Restaurant & Dining – T-Bone’s Grill and Bar – Rock Rapids
Value-Added Agriculture – Lester Feed and Grain – Lester
Commercial - Retail Business Builder – Glynlyon – Rock Rapids
Celebrating Women in Business – Oehmsen Midwest, Inc. – George
Business Builder – Oak Street Station – Inwood
And, Community Event – Inwood 4th of July Celebration – Inwood

Elanco, receiving Business of the Year recognition, provides comprehensive products and knowledge services to improve animal health and food-animal production in more than 70 countries around the world. Elanco values innovation, both in scientific research and daily operations, and strive to cultivate a collaborative work environment for more than 6,500 employees worldwide. The Elanco site in Larchwood manufactures animal health vaccines to supply nearly ten global markets. The site, which has approximately 200 employees, is also a research and development vaccine commercialization hub and clinical testing facility. It was established in 1979 and was acquired in 2002 by Novartis and then by Elanco Animal Health in 2015. Together with their customers, Elanco is committed to raising awareness about global food security, and celebrating and supporting the human-animal bond. In 2015, Larchwood employees organized a service project and packed more than 50,000 meals to benefit Kids Against Hunger. Founded in 1954, Elanco is a division of Eli Lilly and Company. Their worldwide headquarters and research facilities are located in Greenfield, Indiana.

Elanco Larchwood Human Resources Manager Mark Niemeyer thanked the LCED Advisory Board for the recognition and also for taking the time to recognize businesses and events that make Lyon County strong.

The LCED Advisory Board also recognized retiring Rock Rapids Development Corporation Director John Hulshof with the LCED Economic Development Achievement Award for his efforts and successes in economic development in Rock Rapids.

The 4th Annual Business Recognition Program was sponsored by Frontier Bank, with locations in Rock Rapids, Little Rock, George and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
